Wisdom of Anecdotes
- Once upon a time, they say, in a village unnamed, there sat an old man at the gates of the village.
- Like the Greek Oracles, he observed, witnessed and, occasionally, interacted with passers-by.
- One day, a rider stopped near him - a horse rider and asked him, "What are the people of this villages like?" The rider did not dismount from his horse and looked very stern and serious. The old man asked, Hey, why are you asking this?
- " The rider replied, "The people of the place I have come from are very indecent. Living with them was unbearable and very disturbing, so I left the place and am looking for a new residence, so I am asking you how the people of this village are like."
- The old man said, "Son, you go ahead. You will find the people living here are even more vile, more wicked, more indecent. Here, you will find more disturbing life, so go look somewhere else.
- " The rider moved on. Just behind him a bullock cart came to a halt, anda man got down and after looking around spotted the old man and approached him, "Grand father, greeting." After exchanging niceties, the traveler further inquired "How are the people of this village?
- I am looking for a new home."
- The old man asked him the same question as he had asked the earlier rider, "How were the people of the place you have come from?" The man had tears in his eyes.. He said, "The people of that place were very loving and kind. I did not want to leave that place but due to economic difficulties, I was compelled to leave. I had to leave to try my luck somewhere else.
- But I have just one desire that whenever conditions improve, I will return there. If I won't be able to live there again, I would atleast wish to be buried in my land. Wherever I live, the memory of the people of my land will torment me." He smiled with pain.
- Hearing this, the old man said, "You are welcome to this village. You will find the people here even more loving than the people of your home." The traveler happily went forth towards the village.
- Listening to all this, was a child from the village. First, the child heard the conversation between the old man and the rider. then the conversation between the old man and the traveler on the cart.
- The child said to the old man, You have really surprised me, you said to one man that our the village is so vile and wicked, just move away on and to the other vou said that our village has very loving people, you have no need to go further. You are welcome!"
- "What is the truth? What you said to the first man or what you said to the second man?"
- The old man asked the child to sit and began explaining, "Everywhere men are the same people are just the way you are."
- "Wherever you go, you will always find yourself; wherever you look, you will always encounter yourself. The whole world is nothing but a mirror, and all relationships are mirrors.Again and again, you only encounter yourself - and again and gain you misunderstand.
- You never realise the point that it is your own mood that you have come across. I merely, gave the two men my observation of them. I told them a very basic truth about man - you see what you are."
