Who is A TEACHER?
- Who is a true teacher? Let me start with a quote by Robert Frost - "There are two types of teachers- the ones who overwhelm you with information, and the ones who gently push you forward." We are not trying to make students reach extreme heights." We are certainly not in the process of making them jump to the skies.
- What is a modern day teacher in our part of the world doing? He teaches. It sounds good! But are the students ready to learn his way? "No", replies my conscience. I heard a student once saying "Should we start learning at home, rather than going to these cow-sheds he meant makeshift classrooms), listening patiently to this creature that we call a teacher?"
- This creature is so unfeeling towards what the student requires that he mixes up his teaching with old-fashioned grumbling..
- The concept of teaching has long ceased to exist, because we have passed the stages of mass education and the elementary notion of learning outcomes. We should adopt the concept of 'NO TEACHING, if we have to survive as teachers. Let's be co-learners with our students.
- The only advantage that a teacher possesses is that he is relatively a quick learner, who can inspire students as peers to learn along. In this process some may learn slowly, some may learn fast, but all of Them will learn.
- Learner-centred teaching is based on the expectation that students are capable learners who will pioneer as power changeover to a more egalitarian classroom. this way of teaching allows teachers to learn alongside students..
- They help in active learning, assist in problem-based learning, and more generally, a thoughtful understanding of what the best teachers actually do in classrooms.
- The dark truth is that the quality of students has deteriorated drastically at the college level, Particularly in general courses, and so has the quality of the teaching faculty. I have heard many teachers grudging that we get "left over" students in colleges, but then I counter by saying that We also get a "left-over" lot in terms of specific trainings on faculty positions.
- The argument and The counter argument hangs in balance. We cannot afford to proceed in this manner any longer and Become academic drolls. Both student and teacher orientation at the college level is required so as set expectations viz-a-viz learning. skill, research, employment, etc. Studying Literature, History sociology with zeal and zest has become a passé, the factor being the methodology adopted to teach these subjects.
- A teacher cannot act like a transmitter/facilitator of the content on subjects like Social Exchange Tradition of George Homans, Derrida's deconstruction, Godot's Waiting for Godot, the Artificial Intelligence theory, the McLaren's series, or even Arithmetics. These are the subject to be loved. They should arouse passion;the passion to learn. Beware not to teach what cannot be taught, for pioneering work shall not be taught. If at all monologue teaching is what we need, then technology can act as the best teacher.
- It can work in tireless, efficient and timely manner. and be economical as well. We cannot beat technology at speed, content, and delivery. It can only be challenged in its learning capabilities. Our faulty pedagogy methods have inhibited our colleges to create new knowledge.
- let's step into the classroom aiming to learn and create an atmosphere where we generate new knowledge. This means trusting students to pick challenging topics and being able to trust your own learning abilities. It might feel scary and like you're losing control, but it's actually freeing. Instead of constantly trying to control the class, students learn to trust and respect you more when you empower them to guide their own learning
