Pedagogical incompetence
- From the very beginning, we are bombarded with the moral sermons which happen to be a good thing - regularity, punctuality, respect. In this context, we are strictly taught to respect Our teachers, the behaviour in the eyes of parents that cannot be negotiated. The intensity of strictness and enthusiasm towards inculcating this attitude in children is commendable to The extent that the parents become happy (or pretend to be happy) and encourage the teachers to reprimand their ward.
- As often experienced, a teacher informing the student's parent about reprimanding the sOn and telling the father, "You should have beaten the hell out of him". With that spirit, when a student enters into school, he, on the one hand, gets to find the well deserving people for the stuff he has been fed with while.
- On the other, he gets disappointed coming across the unacceptably incompetent teachers. Respecting teachers cannot be challenged but the criteria of respect that our moral/ethical code has set is not to question the teacher which subsequently gets reflected in the efficiency of the students and ultimately in our society at large.
- A student takes admission in school or college with the idea that he shall now be exposed to the education and the well qualified educationists look whom he is supposed to be respecting.
- This is the spirit that one is fed by his parents in specific and the social-ethical code in general. But when a student's questioning earns him nothing but teacher's wrath or numerous excuses, he feels demoralized and cannot bring himself to respect them.
- Avoiding the questions from students or creating an image of self as somebody, not responding to them, is what makes students feel the incompetence of a teacher.
- At times, when the teacher cannot positively answer the questions posed by student, it consequently instills in a student a shock as to how can a teacher not know something, for it is a commonplace to put the teacher on the pedestal as someone having knowledge as deep as ocean.
- Pedagogical incompetence has not only shown us the inability to impart the knowledge that one possesses. Most of the times, we find ill-some teachers who are not competent enough knowledge that they are imparting. You may have come across that teacher who doesn't have the significant knowledge of the subject he is teaching. This becomes the reason that Students start making fun of teachers.
- You will never come across a sensible student making fun of Confident and well-being teacher. So far as the nature of vagabonds is concerned, they make run of everyone who resists their vulgarity. You might have come across a student right beside you saying, "l can teach better than him" even if he is an average student in the classroom or" What the hell is he talking!!I have more knowledge than him". Not that all teachers fall in the same category but a teacher, at least, is not supposed to be like this.
- Who is to blame for this pedagogical incompetence? Some people blame protective discrimination' for the widely found incompetence in teachers. As a matter of the fact it is somehow to blame but not wholly. Protective discrimination does not allow incompetence in the noble and sensitive field like education department. Protective discrimination has set a proper threshold which does not seem to be allowing incompetence.
- Moreover, we come across the teachers of the same lot from the open merit which indicates that the reasons behind this lie somewhere else. Can corruption, in the public offices, be blamed for this menace? It will not be a wrong thing to do, for the public officials do not even make their faces red while taking bribes Is it that people work hard to qualify the exam and get into something as soon as possible for the safe salary and then just stop, looking at their profession with complete nonchalance?
- There are numerous guesses but the fact of the matter is that pedagogical incompetence impacts individual efficiencies which get reflected in social functioning. Pedagogical incompetence is spoiling the future of nations.
- It causes the lack of productivity which results into less participation in various fields especially Science, making nations dependent on others. The fact that the third world nations are nowhere in inventions and discoveries is the blessing of pedagogical incompetence that this part of the world has been bestowed upon.
- Unfortunately, this menace is spreading its arms rapidly, putting the future of the students in, particular, and that of nations at stake. Sanity does not allow putting your driving factor in danger. Therefore, the need of an hour is to reflect on the matter to find some remedy for the primary problem which has very fundamental implications.
